Village Centre Road Safety

September 23, 2017 by Nick

The speed limit through Paston is 40 mph, from Water Lane, Mundesley to just past the church at the Bacton end. We the Parish Council  have for some time been asking the County Council  for a 30 mph limit  through Paston Village.  Their response has been that a 30 mph limit is only needed on stretches of road with houses on both sides. and, as always, they mention cost and funding cuts.

We believe that even if they are right about both sides of the road exception should be made for us because of the number of side roads with limited visibility such as Pond Road/Beare’s Lane and the narrow uphill and round a corner bit of road at Stow Hill, but particularly the danger for children crossing the road from Vicarage Road and Chapel Road when being picked up and dropped off by the bus to and from school..

There is a silver lining in that the County Council , while not agreeing the lower limit, have acknowledged our concerns about the children’s safety – they have authorised and are sharing cost of a footpath round the Vicarage Road Bacton Road junction to enable children to cross the road at a point where visibility is better.

We are however still pressing for the 30 mph limit.  Our County Councillor Ed Maxfield was at the last two Parish Council meetings and is taking it up with the  highways department.

Any observations on this or any other highways matters gratefully received – contact me n.bardswell@gmail.com or any of your Parish Councillors.
